Romania will supply gas to Moldova for political reasons
Chisinau, May 27 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – After the completion of the Iasi - Ungheni gas pipeline, Moldova will receive gas according to the political decision made. This was stated today by the Minister of Economy of Romania, Constantin Nita, during a press conference.
“Some issues need to be resolved politically. It would be more profitable for us to use natural gas in petrochemicals, but we must think about the Republic of Moldova. There are our people there, and we must help them,” Nice said.
The official noted that until now Romania had a closed market and was not involved in gas exports, reports jurnal.md with reference to the Romanian publication Ziarul Finaciar.
Construction of the Iasi - Ungheni gas pipeline began on August 27, 2013. Although Romanian authorities have stated that gas exports could begin before 2014, construction work has not yet been completed. The project is part of the “Romania - Ukraine - Republic of Moldova - 2007-2013” program.
Currently, Moldova receives natural gas from Russia at European prices. In the first quarter of 2014, the price of blue fuel for the Republic of Moldova amounted to 374,38 US dollars per 1 thousand cubic meters.
