The publication notes that more and more Moldovan villages are accepting declarations of accession to Romania. At the same time, in Romania there is a plan “Unirea 2018” (“Unification 2018”), and recently in Bucharest an initiative was announced to create a special ministry of reunification.
“A process similar to the return of Crimea to Russia. But if neither Bucharest nor Chisinau recognized Crimea as Russian, then they welcome and justify their own reunification in advance,” the newspaper notes.
In addition, former Romanian President Traian Basescu previously stated that he would submit to parliament for consideration a bill on the unification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania. According to him, the legislative initiative will also be based on US Resolution 148.
“The initiative of a group of American senators was to consider the republic’s right to unify with Romania as soon as Moldova declared its independence. The declaration clarifies the country’s right to reunify with Romania in accordance with the provisions of Article 1 of the Helsinki Final Act,” Basescu explained.
At the same time, German political scientist Alexander Rahr told the publication that he had discussed the possible unification of Moldova with Romania with German officials.
“They doubt that Bucharest will agree to this, since the result will be a crack in the European Union. In addition, Romania is not Russia, it will not be able to withstand the kind of pressure that is being put on the Russian Federation - by the whole world. Nevertheless, someone is trying to implement this scenario. And if the unification does happen, it will be an incident that will benefit Moscow. In this case, Transnistria may go to Ukraine, and Donbass may remain in Russia. Or why shouldn’t Transnistria declare itself independent in this case? Such an unlikely, but still not completely excluded, scenario could have an impact on the Karabakh conflict,” Rahr believes.
