Chisinau - Bucharest, September 01 (PolitNavigator, Petr Alekseev) - By 2019, Romania will be able to fully cover Moldova’s needs for natural gas. This was stated by Romanian President Traian Basescu, speaking at the annual meeting of Romanian diplomacy in Bucharest.

He noted that this will become possible provided that the appropriate gas infrastructure is created and Romania successfully produces hydrocarbons from gas fields on the Black Sea shelf, the portal noi.md reports.
Basescu recalled that on August 27, the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline was put into operation, through which Romania will be able to supply blue fuel to Moldova - so far up to 50 million cubic meters per year. To increase gas supplies, it is necessary to continue the construction of a gas pipeline on the territory of Moldova, as well as install two compressor stations on the territory of Romania, the president said.
The Romanian head of state also considers it important to ensure mutual connection of the two countries’ power grids, which will allow Romania to supply electricity to Moldova.
These projects are very expensive, so it is extremely important for Bucharest and Chisinau to receive funds from European funds for their implementation, Basescu emphasized.
