Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta called the ratification of the document by the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments a historical event.
“I am very glad that Romania is the first country to undergo the ratification procedure of the agreement, first of all with Moldova, but also with Ukraine and Georgia. In my opinion, this is a historical event, the significance of which we do not fully understand today. Residents of the Left Bank of the Prut have made a huge step forward,” said Ponta, quoted by Agerpres and Noi.md.
Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Korletyan, in turn, said that the association agreement with the EU will have a positive impact on the Moldovan economy in terms of exports and wage growth.
Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia signed economic agreements on association with the European Union and free trade on June 27. The Legislative Body of the Republic of Moldova ratified the document on July 2.
