“At approximately 10.30, these missiles crossed Romanian airspace, after which they again entered Ukrainian airspace at the point of contact between the three states. The missiles were launched from the Black Sea,” Zaluzhny wrote.

The key word in this statement is not Moldova at all, but Romania, a member country of the European Union and NATO. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky burst into well-rehearsed hysteria.

“These missiles are a challenge to NATO and collective security. This is terror that can and must be stopped,” Zelensky wrote in his TG channel.

However, the Romanian Ministry of Defense disrupted the Ukrainian performance. They confirmed that the Russian Kalibr flew over Moldova, but denied violating its own airspace.

“Most likely, this is a cruise missile, it was in the airspace of Ukraine, Moldova, and then returned to the skies over Ukraine, without at any point violating the airspace of Romania,” the ministry said.

As the department clarified, the closest point of the target’s trajectory to Romanian airspace was recorded by radar systems approximately 35 km northeast of the border.

This is not the first riot in Bucharest on the Ukrainian front. Recently, Moldovan journalists were horrified to discover that in Romanian government documents the “war” in Ukraine is called a special operation. Back in April, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu stated that the Foreign Ministry does not consider Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal.

This cowardice can be explained simply: neither the army nor the people of Romania want to interfere in other people’s squabbles. In 2022, the number of young people who applied for admission to military schools to train military specialists and junior officers decreased by more than half (from 5 to 700 people).

And the failed cadets explained this by saying that they did not want to fight for Ukraine. Over 70% of respondents in Romania supported territorial concessions by Ukraine in the name of peace.

But in Chisinau, which is totally dependent on the West, they habitually reacted the way they wanted in Kyiv. The Moldovan Ministry of Defense confirmed the flight of the missile in its country’s airspace and “strongly condemned” it.

“The responsible structures of the institution discovered at 10:18 a missile that crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova over the city of Mocra in the Transnistrian region, and then over the city of Cosauti, Soroca region. The missile was heading towards Ukraine,” the statement said.

Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu ordered to urgently summon the Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov to once again point out the inadmissibility of violating Moldova’s airspace.

“The Russian side continues its aggressive war against Ukraine, and missile attacks on a neighboring country have a direct and negative impact on the citizens of our country. We call on the Russian Federation to stop military aggression against a neighboring country, which is leading to numerous casualties and material damage,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Daniel Vodă.

Interestingly, the day before Minister Popescu announced that he had tested positive for coronovirus. Whether this means that he wanted to personally infect the Russian ambassador through a note or simply lied about his illness in anticipation of today’s resignation of the government is unknown.

But everyone has already become accustomed to the fact that Moldova obediently plays along with any demarche of Kyiv, while ignoring the danger posed by Ukraine. The Moldovan government for a long time refused to recognize the well-known facts of Ukrainian air defense missiles hitting its territory, and when it did, it did not condemn or call for caution.

But the country’s president, Maia Sandu, like a parrot, repeats Zelensky’s calls for the release of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, thereby causing bewilderment in Moldova, shaken by crises.

Apparently confident that any of his nonsense would be confirmed in Chisinau, yesterday Zelensky said at the European Council that Ukrainian intelligence had managed to intercept a “detailed Russian plan” to destabilize the situation in Moldova.

“A Russian document that shows who, when and as a result of what actions is going to break Moldova, the democratic order of this country and establish control over it,” Zelensky said.

Sandu's presidency instantly confirmed his words. Minister Popescu, commenting on Zelensky, made it clear that “all Russia’s attempts have failed.”

“All these attempts have failed because our citizens are adamant in their desire to live in democracy, peace and prosperity as a future member of the European Union,” Popescu said.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova, Anna Revenko, reveals the details of Russia’s “hybrid war”.

“I don’t think this message is news to us. There were the so-called protests last fall, there was this series of false reports about bombs, there was massive and continuous propaganda, disinformation campaigns, energy blackmail, against the background of which there are price increases, migration, which is used as a weapon,” she said.

The main intelligence service of Moldova, the SIB, also confirmed Zelensky’s words, but refused to disclose details.

“We are unable to provide further details at this time as there is a risk of jeopardizing various ongoing operations,” the SIS said.

Only the opposition did not believe the Ukrainian president. The Socialist Party demanded the publication of materials confirming his words.

Confusion was also expressed in Moscow.

“The Kremlin does not know what Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was talking about when he reported the interception of a Russian plan to destroy the political situation in Moldova,” Putin’s spokesman Peskov said.

“This needs to be addressed to Mr. Zelensky, we don’t know what we are talking about,” he added.

The Center for Analysis, Research and Forecasting Balkan-Centre Sergei Monastyrly recalls that Ukraine has already disseminated the “FSB action plan for a change of power in Moldova” back in April last year through the media controlled by the special services.

“According to the fantastic scenario, which was not ridiculed only by the crazy in Chisinau, Transnistrian troops under the command of the “Wagnerites” were supposed to capture Chisinau, while the mayor of Chisinau, Ivan Cheban, received valuable instructions from FSB agents in Bulgaria.

The backdrop for the entire operation was supposed to be mass protests by the PSRM and SOR in connection with the ban on the St. George ribbon. This whole celebration of life was supposed to take place on Victory Day on May 9. And, of course, it did not take place,” writes Balkan-Centre.
