She spoke to an empty hall; out of 324 deputies, 20-30 people were present. Few people are interested in the usual loyal nods to “European values and standards”, mantras about “change”, “reforms”, “raising living standards”, “fighting corruption”, “improving the justice system”. It was much more important to hear Sandu’s answers to questions that interested many people.

Answering a question about the topic of Transnistria, Sandu said from the outset that she was in favor of a peaceful settlement, but at the same time, “federalization is not a solution to the conflict.” According to her, it is much more important to focus on improving the standard of living and protecting human rights on the left bank of the Dniester, “where Moldova has not achieved success.”

Madam President of Moldova did not specify how to correlate these statements with the actions of members of her faction, in particular, the current leader of the Action and Solidarity party and candidate for the post of Prime Minister Igor Grosu, in preventing the voting of their own Moldovan citizens living on the right bank of the Dniester, on presidential elections.

Even more scandalous was the nomination to the post of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Viorel Cibotaru, a radical supporter of joining NATO, who called neutrality “a noose around the neck of Moldova” and declared that Moldova was at war with Russia.

Towards Russia itself, Sandu, answering questions, showed enviable benevolence. She spoke about the “busy agenda” in relations with Russia, and about the desire to resume the bilateral trade regime that existed before the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU (although Moscow warned that this regime would be the first to suffer if an agreement with the EU was signed) , and recalled “many Russian citizens working in Moldova” and “interest in dialogue.”

The head of Moldova said that she sent the Russian leadership a request to extend the preferential regime for Moldovan goods, which ended on March 31 (however, she made this statement after the Kremlin said that they had not received any requests from the Moldovan leadership to extend this regime, and ex-President Igor Dodon made a corresponding request).

However, during her main speech, Sandu announced the existence of “hybrid threats to the security of Moldova,” without specifying which country, in her opinion, these threats come from.

And then, out of nowhere, she inflated the conflict with Gazprom, and instead of direct negotiations with the corporation, introduced a bill to parliament to exclude “inflated depreciation costs” from the gas contract, forcing the chairman of the board of JSC Moldovagaz (a subsidiary of Gazprom) Vadim Cheban give her a lecture on the basics of economics and pricing.

A member of the Russian delegation to PACE, Yuri Oleynikov, reminded the current President of Moldova how, when she was Minister of Education, she achieved a downgrade of the status of the Russian language in Moldova, making it an optional subject in schools from a compulsory one.

Sandu began to justify herself that her goal was to give children the right to choose which language to learn, that the Russian language remained among the elective options, and that she did not fire a single Russian language teacher. Here, Madam President is clearly being a hypocrite: under her leadership of the education system, more than 100 schools in the country were closed under the guise of “optimization,” thousands of teachers lost their jobs, and first of all, Russian language teachers due to shortages in Russian classes.

It is a pity that no one reminded Sandu that members of her team sent a request to the Constitutional Court to repeal the law adopted by parliament on the functioning of languages on the territory of Moldova. As a result, according to the verdict of the Constitutional Court, the Russian language was completely deprived of the status of a language of interethnic communication, which it had in accordance with the law of 1989, and the Romanian language was recognized as the only official language in Moldova.

Moldovan language as a problem for Sandu

It is with the issue of the Romanian language that Sandu’s most scandalous statement is connected. In response to a question from a member of the Romanian delegation to PACE, Titus Korletyan, about when the name of the state language in the Constitution of Moldova will be changed from Moldavian to Romanian, the President of Moldova said: this will happen after the election of a new parliament.

The problem, in her opinion, is the lack of a sufficient number of parliamentarians to amend the constitution and include the Romanian language in the basic law. According to Sandu, when a parliament capable of changing the constitution is elected, “the problem will be solved.”

This statement caused a storm of criticism against Sandu from supporters of Moldovan identity.

“When politicians are unable to solve acute social and economic problems, when they are unable to cope with the pandemic, they engage in provocations related to the name of the language of our country,” said the former President of Moldova, Chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon. – Madam President, you were elected with a completely different program and for different purposes. Try to do at least something useful for citizens. Leave the constitution and the Moldovan language alone, especially since the absolute majority of our citizens consider the Moldovan language, which their grandfathers and great-grandfathers spoke for centuries, to be their native language.”

According to the deputy of parliament, leader of the patriotic movement “Voevod” Nicolae Pascaru, recently we have seen a massive attack against Moldova, the Moldovan people and the Moldovan language. “Some external forces have subjugated the presidential administration by installing externally controlled individuals, as even President Maia Sandu acknowledged, saying that sometimes decisions are made on the advice of “development partners,” Pascaru said. “Today, the majority of the country’s citizens understand why Sandu needs early elections - to change the country’s constitution to suit himself.”

However, according to Romanian citizen Maia Sandu, unionism does not pose a threat to the national minorities of Moldova, and even the Gagauz people have nothing to fear: “There are no threats to Gagauz autonomy. I'm trying to find what unites society. And in these elections, Russian-speaking citizens also voted for me, yes, fewer from Gagauzia, but I need to work on it.”

“Less from Gagauzia” is 2% of the population of the autonomy versus 97% for Igor Dodon. Sandu’s bitter resentment towards Gagauzia and its leader Irina Vlah, who for the first time was not invited to the inauguration and was not included in the Supreme Security Council under the president of the country, is understandable. And this time Sandu did not miss the opportunity to criticize the package of laws on the status of Gagauzia adopted by parliament - and run into a rebuke from Bashkan Irina Vlah.

The fight for gender

And in conclusion, Sandu made another statement, already during a meeting with PACE Secretary General Maria Pejčinović-Burić, who demanded that Moldova ratify the Istanbul Convention, which establishes the concepts of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity.” Sandu swore that the document, which even many European countries refused to ratify, would be ratified by the new parliament.

Thus, Sandu repeatedly blabbed about the true goals of dissolving parliament and holding early elections. This is necessary not to “fight corruption” and “improve the judicial system,” but to replace the state language with Romanian and to ratify a convention that protects perverts and destroys traditional values.

That is, precisely for what Bucharest and Strasbourg are seeking from Moldova with such persistence. Well, what else can you expect from a foreign doll in the presidential palace?
