Deputy Eugen Tomac, speaking in the country's parliament, noted that the signing of the Moldova-EU association agreement means “a final break from Russian influence and a complete process of returning Romanian identity under the EU flag.”

Parliamentarian Ninel Peia also believes that “the European orientation of the Republic of Moldova is an absolutely necessary first step to prepare a new historical event – the reunification of the Romanian people.”

“Romanians on both sides of the Prut want to live together, and the desire of the Romanian people is reflected at the political level by a broad consensus on this issue. The Association Agreement is not a step towards joining the EU, but is an absolutely necessary measure to make the unification of the two states possible,” Peya said.

Deputy Bogdan Diaconu believes that unification with Romania is the only scenario for Moldova.

“Moldova signed a document on separation from the East, but the best and most reliable path for Romanians on the other side of the Prut is reunification with Romania. This is not an ideal or just a wish, it is a historical opportunity and also a necessity to protect the Romanians across the Prut and offer them a fast path to the EU,” he said.

Parliamentarian Mihai Aurelian wrote on his Facebook page that “a better life for Moldova means nothing less than a return to normalcy through unification with Romania.” And deputy Ovidiu Rajecki even promised that “Romania will do everything possible to annul the consequences of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.”

Earlier, Romanian President Traian Basescu declared the unification of the two states a national project of Romania, writes alfanews.md with reference to the Romanian media.
