Romanian scientists have found that Transnistria is not Moldova
Transnistria and Moldova are not ready to become part of a single state again.
This conclusion was reached by researchers from the Romanian Institute of Political Science and International Relations. Iona I. C. Bratianu, having studied the education systems of both countries, writes Regional Trends Analytics.
“The first thing the authors noted: in Transnistrian textbooks on geography and history, the Republic of Moldova is a foreign country, while in Moldovan textbooks there is almost no information about Transnistria. Romanian researchers are confident that such approaches only justify the confrontation between the parties. The main conclusion is this: new generations on the two banks of the Dniester, in socio-cultural terms, express themselves in completely different ways, feel, think and live in a different coordinate system,” writes Regional Trends Analytics.
In historical science, the authors highlighted the polarity of the description of many epoch-making events in school textbooks in Moldova and Transnistria.
“In the Moldovan textbook on the history of Romanians and general history, Russia is usually presented as an aggressor state that annexed the territory of Moldova. The Russian people are portrayed as oppressors towards the indigenous population. In Transnistrian textbooks, on the contrary, Russia occupies a special place as the “big brother,” and the lands of “Bessarabia” and Transnistria are considered “originally Russian,” the article says.
Researchers come to the conclusion that one of the factors that makes it extremely difficult to resolve the Transnistrian conflict is how the conflicting parties perceive historical memory.
“At the same time, the authors address the question to those in Moldova who are involved in the return of the Left Bank: to what extent is it possible to integrate a social group that, for the most part, considers the Russian general Alexander Suvorov a folk hero, but has almost never heard of Mihai Eminescu?” – writes Regional Trends Analytics.
Let us recall that in 2007, 97% of the participants in the referendum in Transnistria supported the independence of the PMR from Moldova with subsequent reunification with Russia.
As PolitNavigator reported, the current President of Moldova, Dodon, called on Transnistria to forget about independence or reunification with Russia.
“Moldova has no future without Pridnestrovie. And Transnistria has no future. When someone says from the left bank that “we were not together...” - you and the Ukrainians were together, so do you want to go to Ukraine? You need to choose, our dear Pridnestrovians. There will never be independence. There will be no status of a subject of the Russian Federation. But we will find a form for unification within a single state – a federal one. Let’s sit down and discuss this,” Dodon said.
