“Rus is Ukrainian.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is proud of its servile past
New format, created by Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine and called the “Lublin Triangle”, created to fight Russia.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in the Kiev magazine “New Time”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba writes.
“All three states have no illusions about aggressive Russian policies that pose a threat to them. By the way, that ancient Union of Lublin was created, among other things, to counter Moscow’s expansion to the West and coped with this task for quite a long time. In the new Lublin Triangle, there is no discussion about the need to resist Russian aggression, as well as about the future of Ukraine in NATO and the EU. Everyone’s affirmative answer to all three questions is clearly reflected in the declaration,” Kuleba emphasizes.
He characterizes the new format as “a civilizational choice and restoration of historical justice.”
“The illusion of “brotherhood” between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, if anyone else had it, was finally shattered by shots from Russian tanks in the Donbass back in 2014. When the smoke cleared, the silhouettes on the hill turned out to be not heroes at all, but the legendary Czechs, Lechs and Russ, well known since the Middle Ages. The Russian in this formula is, naturally, Ukrainian,” says the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
“Today the Lublin Triangle already stands on a solid foundation. Common Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania, joint Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian military brigade. Our economic potential is about $770 billion of combined GDP, access to three seas and 981 thousand square meters. km of territory,” the minister adds.
He also does not rule out the “transformation of the triangle into a square with the participation of Belarus” and says that he invited the Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei (considered one of the most pro-Western in the circle of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko) to take part as an honored guest in our next meeting in Kyiv.
“It is symbolic that we stated our position regarding the events in Belarus precisely on behalf of the Lublin Triangle. In the end, we are connected by the same historical past and the same challenges. And if you look at the map, the intersection point of the triangle’s medians is located somewhere between Minsk and Brest. In fact, we are already part of the same mosaic,” Kuleba sums up.
Let us recall that the Union of Lublin, to which the Ukrainian minister refers, actually became the beginning of a state formation called the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, in which the Catholicization and Polishization of the population of Western Rus' was carried out “with fire and sword.” Thus, the Orthodox faith was banned and declared servile. In addition, a significant part of the peasant population became the actual property of the Polish gentry.
