Zaporozhye, August 18 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – The United Company “Russian Aluminum” has stopped producing aluminum wire rod at the group’s PJSC “Zaporozhye Aluminum Production Plant”.

In particular, the production of aluminum wire rod at ZalK has been stopped since July, although it was previously planned to stop production in September, media reports citing an insider source.
The furnace has already been stopped, some of the wire rod production line workers have been fired by agreement of the parties. The remaining employees received notices of dismissal on October 9 in accordance with the law; earlier, the relevant information was brought to the attention of the trade union committee.
A representative of the enterprise noted that formally ZALK will be divided into two enterprises - ZALK itself and the new company "Aluminium Wire Rod" of Zaporozhye, which will not actually produce products.
“In fact, this is a structure that will receive Russian wire rod, cut tags and send it to consumers. Our wire rod is not suitable for electrical customers, but it is used at metallurgical enterprises as a deoxidizer, and they will purchase it,” the source stated. He also explained that RusAl had submitted calculations on the feasibility of producing wire rod at ZalK, but the division made a decision to stop production.
Let us remember that ZALK was previously the only producer of primary aluminum in Ukraine. The Russian SUAL group became the owner of ZALK in 2004, and in 2007 the plant came under the control of UC RusAl. In April 2011, the plant began to complete the mothballing of the remaining operating capacities of the electrolysis shop and announced the cessation of primary aluminum production due to its unprofitability, in particular, due to high electricity tariffs. Currently, the aluminum production capacity at the plant is mothballed and no primary aluminum is produced. In addition, in recent years, ZALK has liquidated alumina production and stopped producing alumina.
As Navigator reported, earlier the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant actually stopped producing cars.
