Russophobia in the underground world: Ukraine has encroached on the Crimean caves
Crimean caves have become another target of anti-Russian actions. This time, the Ukrainian speleological association accused Crimean researchers of stealing the cadastre of Crimean caves and for its further integration into the Russian cadastre, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is known for certain that in 1958 the Simferopol Speleologists Club was created - the first association of this kind in the USSR. It owes its appearance to the tasks of the Cold War period: the USSR Ministry of Defense instructed geologists to compile an inventory of Crimean caves suitable for housing military units in the event of active hostilities.
The karst-speleological detachment operated on the basis of the Crimean Institute of Mineral Resources. Already during the Russian period in 2017, Crimean scientists became involved in the creation of an electronic cadastre of caves in Russia. And now the Ukrainian speleological association has declared that the cadastre of Crimean caves is its intellectual property.
“Together with European colleagues, Ukrainian speleologists called our half-century work on the cadastre of Crimean caves “the theft of the Ukrainian cadastre of caves and its integration into the Russian cadastre of caves,” noted Gennady Samokhin, senior lecturer at the Department of Geomorphology and Geography of the Crimean Federal University. – In addition, they ask the International Union of Speleologists not to invite Russian specialists to speleological conferences, meetings and expeditions. Unfortunately, Russophobia and nationalism have penetrated into the underground world.”
