The transfer of Russian-language schools in Ukraine to teaching in Ukrainian will have little effect on the situation with the Russian language, although it is a manifestation of discrimination.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“The system of state Russian education in Ukraine is completely destroyed. But in principle, this is not such a big loss, since the public education system in Ukraine has already been destroyed as a whole, both Russian and Ukrainian.
Of course, closing Russian schools politically is an illiterate approach. Russians were put below everyone else, because schools in Hungarian and Polish continue to operate. But you can’t teach children Russian. But there is also self-education and private education. Russian culture, Russian language, Russian education will still make its way,” said Alexander Semchenko.
Let us remind you that from September 1, 2020, Russian-language schools in Ukraine switched to teaching in Ukrainian. At the same time, representatives of other national minorities whose languages are official in the European Union can continue to study in their native language until 2023.
