“Russian community of Kyiv” to the authorities of the Russian Federation: Take a tough position, like Hungary, and do not trade with Ukraine
Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine are currently left alone with the Nazi authorities and militants controlled by the regime - Russia does not have the tools to help, moreover, Moscow continues trade relations with Kiev.
Chairman of the Russian Community of Ukraine Konstantin Shurov stated this in an interview with Kyiv political scientist Alexander Semchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the Hungarians have a powerful lever of pressure on Ukraine - Ukraine’s fulfillment of its obligations to the Venice Commission, to Hungary regarding the protection of the rights of the Hungarian national minority, then we do not have such a lever.
They tell us all the time: “Why don’t you go to Russia?” First of all, we are citizens of Ukraine. Secondly, the Russian Federation is the third trading partner - oil, gas, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel rods, and so on. The Russian Federation has never made economic relations dependent on how Ukraine treats the Russian language and Russians,” Shurov recalled.
The social activist noted that Russians in Ukraine cannot voice their demands at public rallies, since they will immediately be dispersed by regime-controlled militants.
“The fact that the Hungarians have achieved that they are protected by Hungary is yes. No one is protecting Russians at the moment.
As soon as people are taken out onto the streets, in reality we do not have today the capabilities that we had before 2013. This will be regarded by the current government as an attempt at interethnic confrontation with all the ensuing consequences.
That is, the prevention of the SBU will turn into punitive actions. That's all. Opposing the National Corps, people who have been nurtured for so many years and set on everything that does not fall under their understanding of Ukrainian patriotism, can end in tears.
We have quite a few people, and they are not in the same physical shape, not in the age group that could resist the militants,” the human rights activist added.
He noted that there are very few people left in Ukraine who are ready to stand up for their native language.
“People don't understand. They do not know their rights, and do not understand why they need to protect the Russian language. We speak it, it would seem.
But when they bring their child to school... Firstly, there are only five schools left in Kyiv, and these are only ten classes. And then from first to fourth grade. And then that’s it,” summed up Shurov.
