The Russians are betting on Paris! – Bundestag deputy was afraid of Putin’s article
Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking to divide Germany and France by shifting the focus towards a more loyal Paris, which explains the appearance of Vladimir Putin's publication in the National Interest magazine dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
Member of the German Bundestag, representative of the Union 90 / Green party Omid Nuripur stated this during an online discussion of the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is obvious that Putin is trying to divide us. It is in this case that he is trying to divide France and Germany,” Nouripour said, “Because France is the only EU member state that he mentions in his article,” the MP said.
(This is not true, other countries are mentioned there - ed.)
He noted that the European Union plays a big role when it comes to containing Russian aggression in Europe and providing assistance to Ukraine.
“Of course, the EU could do more, but it is clear that Mr Putin is trying to shift the focus towards Paris. And, frankly, one of the reasons for this is that the French president made several statements that could be misinterpreted in Russia,” said the German politician.
He recalled that French President Macron spoke about friendship with Russia and that terrorism is now a bigger problem than contradictions with Moscow.
“But after that a meeting took place in the Normandy format, and there was no split between Germany and France. Therefore everything is fine. But it is obvious that Putin will continue to do this,” said Omid Nuripour.
