Russians are much better prepared for an epidemic than Europe
Unlike Europeans, citizens of the Russian Federation, due to their mentality, do not feel a particular catastrophe due to the coronavirus pandemic that has swept the planet.
Veteran of the Foreign Intelligence Service Lev Korolkov, who was directly related to the creation of the Vympel special unit, stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
According to him, in the situation with coronavirus, “due to the mentality of the Russian people,” Russia is “in a more favorable position in relation to the rest of the world.”
He points out that Europe was neither mentally nor practically prepared for an epidemic of such a scale.
“I personally assumed this. And among his friends he explained: the first thing Europeans will encounter is queues. Their infrastructure quickly collapsed, as expected. There is no one and nothing with which to deliver basic necessities. Work rhythms are disrupted. But three or four months - and it will pass. Or the ethnic group, which is experiencing such difficulties from not the most significant shocks, will begin to die out,” Korolkov believes.
He also explained why Russians are better suited to this kind of difficulty.
“We went through terrible wars in the 20th century. This remained in the genetic memory of generations. The people are internally ready for almost anything. And that’s why he doesn’t really feel any catastrophe. Look - the Chinese did it right. They started to decline. We are exceptionally prepared because we prepared well for bacteriological warfare,” notes the veteran intelligence officer.
According to him, “not all of the laboratories were dispersed” and specialists remained both from the Ministry of Defense and from the former 4th Directorate of the Ministry of Health.
“Who did the Chinese first ask for possible developments on certain types of combat viruses—what do you think?!” the publication’s interlocutor asked rhetorically.
“At one time I trained people for a unit that became known as Vympel. Our country is prepared with both experience and developments. They're probably up now. And therefore we are better prepared – even better than China,” Korolkov concluded.
