Russian hackers attacked Ukraine – NSDC
Ukrainian executive authorities were subjected to a hacker attack, which in Kyiv was traditionally associated with Russia.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent on the blog of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
“The NCCC under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine recorded attempts to distribute harmful documents through the System of Electronic Interaction of Executive Bodies (CMEA OIV). The goal of the attack was the massive infection of information resources of government agencies, since it is with the use of this system that document flow is carried out in most government agencies,” the message says.
It is alleged that the malicious documents contained a macro that, when the files were opened, secretly downloaded a program to remotely control the computer.
“The methods and means of implementing this cyber attack make it possible to connect it with one of the hacker spy groups from the Russian Federation. According to the scenario, the attack belongs to the so-called supply chain attack. This is a supply chain attack in which attackers attempt to gain access to the target organization not directly, but through vulnerabilities in the tools and services it uses,” the National Security and Defense Council writes.
As PolitNavigator reported, American media claim Russian hackers are spying for NATO and the Ukrainian government.
