Russian troops knocked out the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the largest thermal power plant in Ukraine
The Uglegorsk thermal power plant in the Svetlodar region of the DPR, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to use as a fortress, came under the control of the allied forces without much destruction.
Advisor to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the LPR Vitaly Kiselyov reported this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Assault detachments of the Wagner PMC this morning occupied the entire territory of the Uglegorsk thermal power plant. Since May 22, it was held by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which retreated from Svetlodarsk and surrounding settlements due to the threat of encirclement,” Kiselyov said.
A video also appeared on the network, where a fighter testifies that at 26 a.m. on July 10, the Uglegorsk thermal power plant came under the control of Russian liberators.
It should be noted that Uglegorskaya TPP is one of the largest thermal power plants in Europe. With the outbreak of hostilities in the Donbass, the station found itself in the front-line zone and switched to an operating mode using the minimum permissible equipment. It is noteworthy that the footage clearly shows that during the liberation special operation the infrastructure of the thermal power plant was practically not damaged.
The military-analytical telegram channel “Rybar” also notes that judging by the internal state, the assault took place with minimal destruction at the facility, despite the fierce resistance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian artillery shelling of the station after the start of the cleanup.
“The main building structures and engineering systems of the station are in satisfactory condition. Turbines and compressors are likely to have a high degree of wear and tear and need to be modernized.
Preliminary forecast: the station can be restored and put into operation after a technical inspection and major overhaul,” the authors of the channel write.
However, it is noted that after the flight of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a major overhaul of the facility is planned in the future.
“In the event of a breakthrough in the defense on the Soledar-Bakhmut line and the retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the Slavyansko-Kramatorsk agglomeration, we can have time to carry out initial repairs before the start of winter. And only later it will be possible to begin a major overhaul of each block separately,” the message says.
