The West is no longer so monolithic in supporting Ukraine. More and more voices are being heard that Russia had the right to launch a military defense system to restore order at its borders.

“We actually crossed a red line, we posed an existential threat to the Russians, and the Russians made that clear to us. NATO’s expansion to the east, and not “imperial ambitions,” forced Moscow to launch a special military operation,” notes American political scientist John Mearsheimer.

“The background of this war was “NATO expansion.” This is the opinion of all senior US Foreign Service officials who are familiar with Russia and Eastern Europe. “Starting in 2014, after the Maidan riots, the United States began to openly, rather than secretly, move towards Ukraine’s accession to the NATO bloc, whose command sent heavy weapons and forced joint military exercises,” agrees American philosopher Noam Chomsky.

Western experts also recognize the slow but steady advance of the Russian army in the Donbass, despite all the assistance from NATO countries to the Ukrainian armed forces.

“The pressure from the Russian armed forces is increasing. They are collecting everything they have to win in Donbass. We need to be realistic: Russian firepower is much higher,” retired Bundeswehr General Klaus Wittmann said in an interview with Welt.

Former Deputy Commander of the US Army Europe Stephen Twitty notes that Russia is moving forward, albeit slowly: “Gradually” - because in modern warfare it is impossible to simply rush across the battlefield through protected territory. This would lead to huge losses and defeat."

US Army Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt states:

“The rate of battlefield consumption has outpaced production to such an extent that the excess supplies provided to Ukraine are nearly exhausted.”

The colossal anti-Russian sanctions did not help Ukraine much, says Croatian analyst Zoran Meter:

“Strategically short-sighted and politically pathetic self-sacrifice of European countries for the sake of some “high goals and values” in Ukraine, a war in which could have been avoided if the West, instead of arrogance, had shown a little more good will.”

Military expert Roman Nasonov believes that the analysts’ opinions cited by the newspaper are sober voices that have become a rarity in the West, where Russia has been and is being assessed inadequately.

“The West planned to worsen the quality of life of our country and collapse its economy. Did it work? No. The opposite happened: the economies of European countries have weakened in many ways, and there is no monolithic decision-making. The amount of ammunition from old stocks has been exhausted, and a number of countries realize that militarily they do not represent anything.”

Tatyana Malitskaya, a member of the Strong Russia movement and head of the volunteer group Vector of People's Assistance to the Front, agrees with him:

“NATO has long waged a hybrid war against Russia, which has now reached a “hot phase.” But, despite the sanctions, the protracted conflict, the supply of weapons and mercenaries to Ukraine, the West is unable to fulfill the tasks assigned to it.”
