The “Russian Bloc” intends to seek the full acquittal of its leader Gennady Basov, who has been behind bars for about two years after being arrested on charges of extorting a bribe. The other day, as you know, the court commuted Basov’s sentence, reclassifying the case from corruption to attempted fraud. The politician’s associates claim that Basov is not guilty, but was the victim of a provocation staged in retaliation for the fight against the “cemetery mafia” in the funeral services market of Sevastopol.

The “Russian Bloc” received a verdict against G.A. Basov, and we have no doubt that a deliberate criminal prosecution is being carried out against the leader of our organization. This sentence has serious consequences. Every Sevastopol resident is made to understand that no one will dare to interfere with shadow business and those who protect it. The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia was sentenced to eight years for fraud with a billion budget funds, and Basov was sentenced to six years for fabricated attempted fraud in relation to two million rubles belonging to people whom Sevastopol residents directly associate with the cemetery shadow business,” the organization said in a statement.
“The sentence passed on Basov is illegal. It contains both outright falsification and direct disregard for Russian laws. In particular, the court added a new person, citizen Korolev, to the list of participants in the so-called operational experiment, who had not previously participated in it. And that’s not all, the panel of judges themselves came up with one hundred thousand rubles, which they, by their own decision, included in the so-called operational experiment in order to adjust the amounts and eliminate contradictions.
Those who today fabricate criminal cases and control shadow business in Sevastopol love silence. Therefore, Basov was found guilty of attempted fraud without victims or damage. There is a redistribution of business in the city and a system of protection for businessmen has been created. Those who do not fit into this system or who can interfere with it will sooner or later be subject to criminal prosecution on dubious charges.
In particular, Basov was found guilty of attempted deception of an entrepreneur, whom Basov had only seen on TV. The fact of the absence of any contacts and acquaintances is confirmed by the “deceived” entrepreneur himself. According to the court, he was deceived through third parties, but on Basov’s instructions. Today it does not matter that the above is doubtful and is not confirmed by anything. The principle applies: if there were a person, there would always be an article. Bass is much more dangerous to a corrupt system than those who steal billions. Therefore, under the article, in the form of assassination attempt, he received the most severe sentence in the entire history of Russia. If Basov were free today, many would have to answer for their crimes, ordered criminal cases and mutual responsibility.
All evidence of Basov's guilt is based on the testimony of one person. And even if the circumstances stated in the testimony of this person contradict the laws, they are not questioned by the court.
The court, taking the side of the prosecution, even ignored the direct instruction of the Supreme Court on the mandatory presentation in the effective part of the verdict of the data that Basov was acquitted of charges of bribery and commercial bribery.
“The Russian Bloc will continue to actively participate in exposing crimes committed by law enforcement officers and thanks all concerned people for their participation and support,” the authors of the document emphasize.
