"Russian Bloc" claims a violation of the right to defense of Gennady Basov
The “Russian Bloc” issued a statement about the violation of the right to defense of Gennady Basov, who was previously sentenced to 9 years and a large fine on charges of accepting a bribe. The politician’s lawyers claim that Basov became a victim of a “set-up” after he began the fight against the “cemetery mafia” in the Sevastopol funeral services market, which was “protected” by “werewolves in uniform.”
Pavel Volkov, Basov's defense lawyer, accused the judge of the Leninsky District Court of the city of Sevastopol of creating obstacles in challenging the politician's sentence.

“On March 22, 2017, the cassation appeal filed by Basov’s defenders was not accepted for consideration, and the basis for the refusal was that signed by judge Vasilenko A.N. left copies of documents were issued, in particular appellate rulings of the city court. The city court was probably very surprised to receive Basov’s cassation appeal, where among the documents issued and duly certified by the Leninsky District Court there was a linden tree, or perhaps a product of the negligence and unprofessionalism of people in robes. As a result, Basov will have to file a new complaint, and Vasilenko himself characterizes the fraudulent documents he issues as just the result of a technical error,” Volkov said.
According to him, this is not the only complaint of the defense against the judge.
“At the request of Basov’s lawyers to familiarize himself with the materials of the criminal case, he not only refused to familiarize himself, which would not have been difficult to foresee, but also forbade in his decision to appeal his decision, thus taking upon himself the role of the entire Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. The most amazing thing is that no one reacts to this kind of legal chaos in the city, and this becomes the norm. Not only do some former Ukrainian officials discredit the Russian authorities in Crimea, but also some former Ukrainian judges think that they continue to judge in Ukraine,” Volkov is indignant.
