“There is no one at the monument. No visitors, no tourists. In a word, not a wreath, not a flower in memory of the fallen soldiers,” writes the publication’s correspondent.
“Pedestrian tiles have bulged, individual marble slabs have fallen off,” he describes the current state of the historic site.
It is unknown whether the monument is on the balance sheet of the Balaklava administration. But there are no signs of basic care for the monument and the territory.
At one of the meetings of the town planning council of the government of Sevastopol, the need for certification of all historical monuments of the city was mentioned. However, no progress has been made in this direction yet.
The battle in the Balaklava Valley in 1854 was the first and only one in the Crimean War that brought success to the Russian army. Then the British cavalry suffered significant losses.
According to the inscriptions on the marble, during the battle the Russian army killed 7 officers and 124 lower ranks.
