The Nikolaev Academic Art Russian Drama Theater decided to celebrate May 9 after a scandal in the local regional council.

Thus, at a meeting of the commission on cultural issues, Secretary Svetlana Gladun complained that the drama theater refused to hold festive events in honor of Victory Day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to Novosti-N.

“There must be an order from the head of the Regional State Administration on the approved action plan. For example, I heard that the Russian Theater refused to conduct or do anything on this topic at all. It is not normal. The regional administration should have a decree so that they provide. They receive all our money, they have been staging productions all their lives, inviting veterans, but here, excuse me, they refuse,” Gladun was indignant.

At the same time, the theater management assured that the events will still take place on May 9, only they will be dedicated not to the Great Patriotic War, but to the Second World War.

“According to the RussDram administration, they have long planned an event on Victory Day, which is also on the poster for May. As proof, the theater management provided a poster stating that on May 9 at 11.00 there will be a festive concert “For the Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second World War,” the theater justifies.

Let us remember that after the coup d’etat in Ukraine they began to actively disown the common history and achievements of the USSR with Russia. Thus, parliament legally removed the term Great Patriotic War from official use.

The authorities are also conducting a campaign to replace the celebration of Victory Day on May 9 with a “day of reconciliation”, which is celebrated on May 8.

And during his recent interview with journalists, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Prystaiko stated that Ukraine will not celebrate 75th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi troops.
