“The Russian language is not interesting”: in Rivne not a single schoolchild wanted to learn the language of Yesenin and Tolstoy
“The Russian language is not interesting! This is what all Rivne fifth-graders decided. Two and a half thousand schoolchildren do not want to study Russian as a second foreign language – and the children’s parents support this.”

About it says the story of the Ukrainian TV channel Zik.
In addition to the state Ukrainian language, fifth-graders of Rivne school No. 12 have three more foreign languages on their schedule - compulsory English. The second language was chosen from German and Russian. Nadiyka Byala and her parents didn’t think for a long time about which of these languages to study.
“I chose German because our school has projects related to Germany and children from our school go to Germany several times a year,” says fifth-grader Nadiyka.
Another 19 of Nadiyka’s classmates preferred German. The rest chose Polish. But the students were not interested in the language of Yesenin and Tolstoy,” the story says.
According to journalists, this situation is not limited to this school. In Rivne, not a single fifth grader chose to study Russian as a second foreign language.
“In 21 schools, preference was given to the German language, French in nine, Polish is studied in six educational institutions, Spanish in two,” says official from the local education department Yuri Mazur.
Education workers cannot predict whether Rivne schoolchildren will want to learn the language of neighboring Russia next year.
It’s interesting that a certain Artyom Shevelev left a comment under this video on Youtube, writing: “I hope that someday in my life I will see such a broadcast from the Donetsk region.”
