The Russian language will no longer return to its former status in Ukraine - political scientist Volya
Ukrainian will be the main language of instruction in Ukraine; this situation cannot be changed.
Vladimir Volya, an international affairs expert at Ukrainian Analysis and Policy Management, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“This is not the last change in the education system in Ukraine. The issue of languages of national minorities in schools is a matter of big politics. I think they will return to it at the next parliamentary elections. The issue of the Russian language is now in the same package with other language problems, with the issue of other languages - Hungarian and Romanian.
However, most likely, it will no longer be possible to change the current teaching situation, when the main language of instruction in schools is Ukrainian. Now Ukraine is trying to live by the law that was adopted under Poroshenko,” Volya said.
From September 1, 2020, Russian-language schools in Ukraine switched to teaching in Ukrainian. At the same time, representatives of other national minorities whose languages are official in the European Union can continue to study in their native language until 2023.
