Russian children are deprived of their native language
In connection with the transition of Russian-language schools to the Ukrainian language of instruction in September 2020, teachers will be forced to take special advanced training courses.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Anna Novosad stated this in a comment to the Kharkov Izvestia publication, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, it is more important for us to prepare teachers so that they are ready to teach in the state language and improve their terminology. For them, we will provide separate refresher courses and a summer school so that they can improve their language skills,” she said.
At the same time, the official noted that the transition of teachers and schoolchildren to the Ukrainian language of instruction will occur during a “certain adaptation period,” and only such subjects as “native language and literature,” as well as extracurricular activities, will remain Russian-speaking.
“We are now preparing for the fact that from September, schools that studied in Russian will switch to studying subjects in Ukrainian from the fifth grade. At the same time, the native language and literature will be taught in Russian. Plus there is the possibility of electives and extracurricular training. And primary school will remain in the native language,” Novosad summed up.
Let us remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on complete secondary education, according to which 80% of subjects in all schools in the country starting from grade 5 must be taught exclusively in Ukrainian.
