So, more than $5 million was found in his accounts.
29-year-old Tverdokhlebov said in court that he would try to “atone for his guilt.” According to investigators, he spent almost ten years on Russian Internet forums where hackers form groups and sell stolen information. To join the forum, he needed a guarantor who would prove his reliability.
It should be noted that Tverdokhlebov was able to put up for sale at least 40 thousand credit card numbers for several years. He also tried to sell access to 500 thousand computers that were infected with malware. Prosecutors say the hacker stole confidential financial information.
Reportedly, Tverdkholebov managed to get about $1 million in transfers from China and Russia; he hired two students from Russia to cash out the funds into a bank account.
Tverdokhlebov was arrested in February in California and pleaded guilty in March. Before his arrest, according to the prosecutor, the Russian lived in Los Angeles, traveled and drove a BMW. The hacker kept about $272 in cash in safe deposit boxes in accounts in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
