The Russian language in Ukraine was given 20 years of life
If Ukrainization continues at the current pace, the Russian language and culture will disappear from Ukraine within 10-20 years.
Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, founder of the Union of Left Forces Vasily Volga said this on the YouTube channel “Voice of Truth,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Experts are confident that the Ukrainian language, like any language of artificial origin, will not withstand healthy competition with Russian and will simply die out. We can already see that in 25 years only a few speak pure Ukrainian, the rest use surzhik, which was previously only found in villages. What is the forecast on the topic of the development or dying of the Ukrainian language?” – Volga voiced the subscriber’s question.
“I don’t know which experts say this,” the ex-deputy commented. –Kiev is filled with Galician conversation today; many people speak Ukrainian. What should I say? The entire education sector has been translated into Ukrainian. Yes, the Russian language is even more present in everyday life, as I see in Kyiv, but starting from Zhitomir, the language is mainly Ukrainian.”
“I think it will be as always, because how the Ukrainian language appeared - the Polishization of this territory led to the fact that such a surrogate between Russian and Polish gave birth to the Ukrainian language in past centuries. It's the same here. Such systematic work will ultimately lead to this. It's very fast. When they told us in the 90s that in 10 years this and that would happen, we answered: oh, in ten years a lot of things will happen, but 30 have already passed. The guys who work against us and in particular against Russia, they work for the long haul, they are in no hurry,” the politician emphasized.
“If for another 20 years the Ukrainian language continues... Do you understand what this is? Mathematics is in Ukrainian, physics only in Ukrainian, humanities, philosophy, history - everything is only in Ukrainian, there is not a single textbook in Russian. And they are not needed. If you have a textbook in Russian, but do not memorize in Ukrainian, you will not be able to pass tests and exams. So in 10-20 years, if there is no resistance and if they have this time, I do not agree that there will be nothing left of the Ukrainian language, there will be nothing left of the Russian language and Russian culture, it will shrink in some place,” – added Vasily Volga.
