Ryabkov to Bloomberg correspondent: Your media is stinking cheese
Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov harshly criticized the American news agency Bloomberg at a press conference in Geneva.
A Bloomberg journalist asked what Russia's military-technical response might be if the United States refuses to provide it with security guarantees.
“Now there is no reason to talk about what systems, in what quantity and where can be deployed. This will immediately be perceived as a new threat from the Russian side. We are working for a result that must be achieved diplomatically. Why should we now become like our colleagues on the other side, who will either bring down our market by talking about shutting down Swift, or talk about the non-certification of Nord Stream. And your wonderful agency replicates this. I understand that ratings are important, but you are causing damage to the Russian economy. This is Bloomberg’s specialty,” Ryabkov said.
The journalist began to justify himself and say that such information was of interest to investors.
Bloomberg conveys the American position in its mainstream presentation and gives a fragmented presentation of the Russian position when it is convenient or when it can be embellished. It’s like Roquefort cheese, so slightly smelly, that’s what Bloomberg is doing, presenting the Russian position,” the Russian diplomat retorted.
Ryabkov also ridiculed Bloomberg’s question about evidence that Russia will not attack Ukraine.
“This reminds me of a scene from a film with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who on Red Square asked the question: “What is your evidence?”
We have asked Americans a thousand times for evidence on many issues. The answer is either silence or “you know it yourself.” We can probably follow the same path. When the situation around Donbass heated up in 2014, the Open Skies Treaty still existed and there were missions. And now everyone is shyly silent and asks for evidence.
Because then nothing was found in terms of a dangerous concentration of any troops. And today we have maps in the Wall Street Journal and in the New York Times. They are professionally made, but this is disinformation on the part of specialized structures in the West in order to sow uncertainty in Ukrainian society, create doubts in the media, and play against the grain. Russia has no reason to attack Ukraine,” Ryabkov emphasized.
