With friends like Poroshenko, you don’t need enemies
On the eve of the World Cup semi-final, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko decided to support the Croatian football player Domagoj Vide, who, after defeating the Russian team, posted a video on the Internet where he shouts “Glory to Ukraine!” and “Burn, Belgrade!”
“The history of relations between Ukrainians and Croats goes back centuries. Croats know better than anyone else what support is worth in days of difficult confrontation. The words of Domagoj and Ognjen are all the more valuable for us. Ukraine appreciates this support, and, of course, is also ready to support true friends. Glory to Ukraine!” Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page today.
This is dubious support, since the Croatian national team will play in Russia, where the stadium will already be turned against them after Vide’s antics. In order to somehow remove negative emotions, Croatian fans today stretched out a huge “Thank you, Russia” banner in the center of Moscow.
But a few hours before the important match with England, the President of Ukraine decided to recall the scandal, as a result of which FIFA fined Vide and anger Russian fans.
Thank you!
