Since the beginning of the SVO, 600 thousand network attacks have been committed on Russian Railways - Ministry of Transport
In almost two years since the beginning of the SVO, the number of information attacks on critical infrastructure facilities in Russia has increased twentyfold.
Director of the Department of Digital Development of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Skachkov stated this during a round table in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Issues of information security have become especially relevant since the beginning of the SVO. Since the beginning of 2022, the Security Council has established a yellow level of danger for targeted computer attacks in relation to 35 transport organizations. For ten organizations - the critical red level.
We sense and record targeted attacks on transport industry facilities. More than thirty major incidents were recorded in 2023.
If we talk about Russian Railways, then attack detection tools have identified more than six hundred thousand attempts at critical attacks on the infrastructure. This is twenty times more compared to 2021.
And this procedure applies not only to large companies like Russian Railways, but also to the industry as a whole, such growth. In general, the transport industry is among the top 3 industries susceptible to information attacks,” Skachkov said.
He emphasized that over the past two years, attacks have also become much more thoughtful, professional and dangerous, but specialists are managing to repel them.
“The main threats are gaining unauthorized access to information, infection with malware, DDoS attacks, denial of service.
Also, compared to 2021, the attacks have become not mechanical in nature, but more intelligent and planned, which is difficult to establish with classical solutions,” the official added.
