“Since the New Year, we have been poachers for the Russian Federation” – Berdyansk fishermen are horrified by the consequences of Chubarov’s brawl
After Ukrainian border guards captured Russian fishing vessel “Nord”, hard times have come for Ukrainian fishermen in the Sea of Azov.
The Kiev magazine “New Time” writes about this in a report from Berdyansk.
“Since the occupation of Crimea and the start of the war in the east, the life of fishermen has already become very difficult. But when seiner Nord was arrested, everything became much worse,” the publication notes.
The Kiev journalist spoke with the head of one of the local fishing companies - the only one who agreed to talk on this topic. At the same time, the magazine clarifies, “he spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing that he would be misunderstood and accused of lack of patriotism.”
“After Nord, Ukrainian fishermen began to be persecuted,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
In addition, the work of Berdyansk fishermen was affected by the recent scandal surrounding the annually meeting Ukrainian-Russian commission on fisheries in the Sea of Azov, which divided fishing quotas.
This year, the commission’s meeting was disrupted by the head of the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, who came with a support group to its meeting. Because of riot caused by the Mejlis member The parties did not agree on quotas for 2019.
“Since the New Year, for Russians we are poachers. Now you can only fish with a fishing rod,” laments the head of the fishing company.
He also clarified that local fishermen support Ukraine, but do not know how they can continue to work, given that about a third of the city’s population lives from fishing.
As PolitNavigator reported, in Kyiv they said that after the capture of “Nord” Russia has opened the safari season in the Sea of Azov.
In addition, billions of losses are complaining representatives of Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov
