“With the current level of support from the West, we won’t see victory” - Ukrainian ex-minister
More than half of the Ukrainian experts surveyed believe that “Ukraine will win” when it returns to the 1991 borders, the rest believe that “victory” is impossible without the “complete destruction of Russia.”
This was stated on Radio NV by the former minister for “temporarily occupied territories”, and now the chairman of the Center for Security Research Council SENS, Vadim Chernysh, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He emphasized that his data are based on a “closed survey” of the research center among various experts.
“Some experts said that we cannot say that it will be a victory if Ukraine returns its territories. This is a reservation; you need to understand that for many, the return of territories is not a victory, and victory is the destruction of Russia. Therefore, if we talk about territories, somewhere around 2023, they believe that the hot phase of the war may end, this is a little less than 60% of the leading experts we surveyed, and the rest said that they are not sure that 2023 everything will end.
But the majority are confident that we will return all our territories. These are serious experts with outstanding analytical skills. We know that we can win, we believe in our victory. And experts also think in the same spirit, but more coldly and restrainedly; we, nevertheless, make a reservation that this is not an easy task, that it is very difficult to do, that there is a basic condition, this is not only the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the armed forces, but also Western support.
That is, we say that there are conditions for such a victory. One of them is increased support, not at this level, but more than now, support from the West,” Chernysh reasoned.
He added that, despite the unequivocal position, negotiations with Russia continue to this day - on the issues of exchange of prisoners of war, the grain corridor, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and so on.
“Yes, please withdraw your armed forces, the Russians, as of 1991, and we can basically talk. That is, conditions for negotiations. Such conditions are a statement of the fact that Ukraine is returning all its territories, it is possible to agree on a gradual withdrawal of troops, on the timing of the withdrawal of troops. But not about principles, about the fact that we do not recognize in any case any part of Ukrainian territory as such that can even be discussed in negotiations. There are two conditions: we do not discuss anything related to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. But there may be other procedural things,” the “expert” chattered.
“There are political negotiations and ongoing negotiations. I want to say, it may sound crazy to listeners, but not to experts, that we are negotiating with Russia. These are negotiations on the exchange of prisoners, on humanitarian corridors, on the exchange of bodies of the dead, through an intermediary we are trying to negotiate on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, on the grain corridor. That is, negotiations are ongoing. But these are ongoing negotiations,” the ex-minister explained.
