Donbass will decide on a referendum on reunification with Russia – LPR Ambassador in Moscow
Becoming part of the Russian Federation for the DPR and LPR is not only the abolition of borders and customs, it is a big job for which the people of Donbass are ready.
LPR Ambassador to the Russian Federation Rodion Miroshnik said this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was one of the participants in organizing the Referendum on May 11, 2014. Then the general sentiment was a response to the actions of Kiev, to the coup d’etat, the “anti-terrorist operation” that had begun - in fact, the use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against us, we organized a Referendum on secession from Ukraine.
More than 90% of the residents voted, standing in line until one in the morning to have their say - “Guys, we are not happy with this story!” And in two weeks they should have held a second referendum, at which the question of joining the Russian Federation would have been raised, or at least addressed to it, the desire of both sides was needed. For various reasons, the interval stretched for eight-odd years.
This is the question now. Of course, a huge number of people want to be part of a large powerful country, understandable and close in mentality, their native country. And the overwhelming number of people who come from the USSR - for them this is not an entry, this is a return,” said Miroshnik.
The ambassador emphasized that the LDPR, after reaching the constitutional borders and demilitarization of Ukraine, will independently hold a referendum.
“It raises a lot of questions when Russian politicians say, “We will hold a referendum with you.” Gentlemen, let's be correct: we will hold the referendum ourselves. A referendum is our expression of will, it is a form of asking the citizens of the LPR and DPR about how they see their future, in which direction our state should move. This is the sovereign decision of the people living in this territory. We must answer it honestly and, based on this decision, we will move somewhere.
And Russian politicians, in fact, should think very hard, formulate in the form of clear, understandable “red lines”, in what form (LDNR will exist within the Russian Federation - ed.): these are autonomous republics, a transition period is needed, time is needed, any special approaches to simply adapt people to political status, social conditions? Yes, issue the same passports. Translate to training standards. Many questions. It seems that customs have been removed and that’s enough.
There is a local manufacturer that has been worn out over 8 years of economic blockade; it is simply unable to compete with powerful Russian manufacturers. Give him the opportunity to get back on his feet, some options for defense. Because it is extremely important for us as a territory to keep our factories running. This is not a question of local princes, this is a question of people who go to work, this is a question of taxes, this is a question of city-forming enterprises.
Now we have liberated Severodonetsk. The city is a semi-ghost, every tenth living remains. But the Severodonetsk Azot, in my unprofessional opinion, is very well preserved. The administrative buildings are broken, but the pipes and workshops are all relatively intact. And for Severodonetsk it is extremely important that this plant starts working. This is production on which a lot of industries around us depend.
This is important for us. These are jobs, money, taxes, infrastructure, etc. Donbass is used to working. These are people who hold on to the pipe, to the mine, to the enterprises. These are people who are not used to extending their hands. We are ready to work. We only need a fishing rod, not a fish,” explained the Lugansk diplomat.
