The withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson without a fight came as a surprise to Kyiv.
Former State Duma deputy, secretary of the United Communist Party Daria Mitina stated this on the YouTube channel “Truth of Life,” PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In order to enter Kherson, the Ukrainian Armed Forces need to travel several tens of kilometers. And they still haven't entered. They are still afraid and do not believe their luck. This is the first sign that Russia has not discussed anything with Ukraine. And if there was some kind of agreement, it was at a completely different level and with other actors. They forgot to inform the Ukrainians, and there was no such need. They were given a big gift, and they still can’t quite believe it,” Mitina said.
She believes that the decision to leave Kherson was made between September 30 (the day of referendums in the new territories) and October 8 (the day General Surovikin was appointed commander of the operation).
“I suspect that the matter was not without external influence. Because it is absolutely clear that no one will discuss anything with Ukraine. You need to talk not with the sheep, but with their shepherds, and the shepherds could put forward any ultimatum to Russia.
I have a version of why we have been following the path of shame since mid-March. It would be easy for us to fight Ukraine alone if no one helped it. But in the conditions of massive military and financial support from Western countries, it is much more difficult for us to fight.
And if NATO gets involved in a serious way and directly comes into contact with our armed forces, then, of course, Russia’s chances of victory will tend to zero. This is probably the consideration that forces Russia to do absurd things and make a number of painful unilateral concessions,” Mitina said.
She also explains by external pressure that Russia is not destroying Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
“We destroy quite demonstratively and extremely rarely. This happens in such a measured way and looks more like a threat than an action itself. Now in Kyiv everyone has electricity and the Internet, although a week ago they were sitting in complete darkness.
People have the opportunity to access the network almost throughout the entire territory of Ukraine. All major cities have already provided heating; this was confirmed to me yesterday from Dnepropetrovsk. All this says a lot,” said Mitina.
