From the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada they insulted Russians and praised the “great Ukrainian nation”
Kyiv must fight to ensure that Nikolai Gogol is considered a Ukrainian writer in the world. Russia is a country without culture, unlike the great Ukrainian nation.
Deputy from the “Radical Party of Oleg Lyashko” Andrei Lozovoy stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To abandon Gogol means to play along with the so-called Russian world, which in fact has nothing of its own. He stole something from us Ukrainians, something from the Chinese, Germans and French. They have nothing of their own. And we, Ukrainians, are a great nation with an incredible cultural heritage that we must protect. We have no moral right to give away ours. Giving up Gogol is the same as giving up our Ukrainian Donbass, Ukrainian Crimea,” Lozovoy said.
“Colleagues, let’s not give away what’s ours. Let us remember that we are a great nation. Do you know the difference between a Muscovite and a Ukrainian? The balalaika has three strings, and the bandura has 65. They have nothing of their own, they stole everything from others, and Gogol wrote about this very subtly, that “the powerful Katsaps are devils with dog faces on German legs.” . Gogol himself wrote that they have no culture, even everyday culture. He wrote that the damned Katsaps even ate cabbage soup with cockroaches, and all the holy people and God's saints ate dumplings. Gogol is ours. We won't give it to anyone. Glory to Ukraine!" – the deputy summed up.
Neither Vice Speaker Irina Gerashchenko, who chaired the meeting, nor representatives of the “opposition” factions in the hall decided to reprimand Lozovy for insulting millions of Russian citizens.
