“Taking into account all the circumstances”: the tourist season in Crimea took place - industry representative
The holiday season in Crimea was not as bad as expected. About 4 million tourists, according to official data, have visited Crimea since the beginning of the year.
It is reported that based on its results, one can count on the figure of 5 million, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We didn’t have any high expectations this year, like we did after 2021. Some hoteliers chose not to open, realizing that last year it was quite difficult due to the lack of air traffic. Someone, on the contrary, worked with all possible channels, saying that there are no problems in Crimea, it’s safe in Crimea, provided service and found an opportunity to attract personnel,” said Alexey Volkov, president of the National Union of the Hospitality Industry.
“In general, we finished the season worse than last year, we had a decline of 30-40 percent. But the demand for Crimea still remains one of the most highly sought-after regions of domestic tourism, and if not in the top 5, then we are definitely in the top 10. The railway is 100% loaded, despite the temporary closures of the Crimean Bridge and the difficulties that arose on it, this season we actually see a steady increase in automobile tourism and stable interest,” the expert assured.
He recalled that this summer, floods occurred again in the Krasnodar Territory after heavy rains and there was a flow of tourists from Sochi to Crimea.
“In certain periods we even had quite strong growth. Well, August, as always, is high season. In general, based on the occupancy of hotels and beaches, I will say that the expectations of the business as a whole were justified, and of course today we cannot say that we are dead. But taking into account all the circumstances that happened in Crimea, 50-70% load for the season is very good. So, everyone here did an excellent job, even if someone didn’t open all the cases,” Volkov concluded.
According to forecasts at the beginning of the year, Crimea this year will not receive 30% of last year’s tourist flow, which amounted to about 6 million vacationers.
