With the departure of Poroshenko, the tomos turns into a pumpkin - Dzhangirov
The Tomos issued by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople for the Ukrainian Church, due to an imperfect legal framework, remains “hanging in the air and slowly crumbling due to established agreements and financial flows in the religious environment.”
This opinion was expressed on the YouTube channel “Glavnovosti” by Kiev political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Firstly, the Kiev Patriarchate is not being liquidated as a legal entity, and the UAOC is not being liquidated either. Why? Here is an important point. Because, no matter what is written in the tomos, and it is a rather rigid document, it cannot take into account all the nuances, because it cannot be a charter from the point of view of Ukrainian legislation, many issues cannot be included there. Therefore, in a situation of interaction between structures, some of the agreements are informal, this is important. These informal agreements in many ways often contradict both the text of the tomos and the charter that the Turks proposed. Unfortunately, this is a business-bureaucratic structure. Because there are serious financial flows that circle according to their own rules. There is a hierarchy, according to its own rules. There are agreements, according to their own rules.
Naturally, when the clock strikes, Poroshenko turns into an ex-president, the tomos begins to turn into a pumpkin, or, well, a thermos. It seems to exist, but all the parties that entered have different interpretations of the obligations that it imposes on them.
Most likely, this will lead to further schisms of some kind; perhaps they will seek patronage from other churches. But the fact is that, in fact, there are no other opportunities except for Constantinople or Moscow. No one recognizes another canonical territory, there are only two options,” the expert stated.
He also noted that recent sociology clearly shows that the number of Ukrainians who consider receiving the tomos an achievement for Ukraine is decreasing.
“After the elections, we conducted a sociology at KIIS, you know that those who have a positive attitude towards Tomos, yes, they make up the relative majority, but they are significantly less than 50%,” the political scientist concluded.
