Attacks on Ukrainian thermal power plants continued in the morning
Russian armed forces continued to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
This, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is evidenced by reports from Ukrainian local authorities.
“The occupier attacked the regional center with missiles. The enemy’s targets were infrastructure facilities,” wrote the head of the Zaporozhye regional military administration, Alexander Starukh, in his telegram channel.
In turn, his Vinnitsa colleague Sergei Borzov said:
“An attack was made on the Ladyzhskaya Thermal Power Plant. Two Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. All services are working. Observe safety precautions during an air raid!”
At the same time, military observer Yuri Podolyaka believes that in the latter case there was an attack on substations.
The military-analytical telegram channel “Rybar” notes that Ladyzhinskaya TPP is “an important goal from the point of view of systemic impact on the energy system of Ukraine.”
“Together with the cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the Dniester, the Ladyzhinskaya Thermal Power Plant powers the southwest of the country. It operates in addition to the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant - thus, a shortage of electricity will be created in the energy network section, which cannot be overcome due to the defeat of the Krivoy Rog Thermal Power Plant (yesterday) and the Ladyzhenskaya Thermal Power Plant (today). The power has been knocked out, and generation by one nuclear power plant can hardly cover the demand.
It turns out that during the astronomical day all large thermal power plants were affected. This will not happen without leaving a trace for the energy network, but we will repeat it again: no critical damage has been caused to the Ukrainian energy system, and most of it will be possible to repair in the short term,” writes Rybar.
And Boris Rozhin draws attention to the fact that after yesterday’s “calibration” Ukraine has not yet managed to restore power supplies to more than 300 settlements.
“It is quite clear that without striking substations and power lines associated with nuclear power plants, it is impossible to completely deprive Ukraine of energy, which, however, fits into the concept of a preventive strike announced yesterday by Putin.
In the meantime, the nuclear power plants are intact, Ukraine has the opportunity, through the redistribution of power, to restore the supply of electricity to large cities, partially compensating for the loss of various substations and thermal power plants with associated rolling blackouts and calls to consume less electricity, coupled with the cessation of electricity supplies to Europe.
1-2 days of strikes in the “Day of Surovikin’s return to work” style, of course, will not destroy the Ukrainian energy sector. With complex attacks within 2-3 weeks, including nuclear power plant infrastructure, Ukraine’s ability to compensate for the loss of generating capacity will be lost, which will be especially critical in the coming winter,” Rozhin believes.
In turn, the deputy of the National Energy Institute, Alexander Frolov, points out that, according to open information, at least 8,22 GW of thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants are affected in Ukraine.
“This is about 30% of thermal and 15% of all generation. Also, this volume is approximately equal to the number of non-operating thermal power plants and thermal power plants in the same period last year, when problems with coal reserves were observed in Ukraine. But then it was possible to counter the problem of electricity shortages with the help of extraordinary loading of the nuclear power plant. Now this is impossible to do (40% of nuclear capacity is Zaporozhye NPP),” Frolov emphasizes.
