The speaker of the National Police, Yaroslav Trakalo, announced this on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The police explain such measures by the complication of the operational situation in the capital and region, due to the commission of a number of high-profile crimes. As an example, the police cited the attempt on the life of Chechen ATO militant Adam Osmayev and the murder of his wife Amina Okueva.
“Preventive measures will be carried out to combat crime, the activities of organized criminal groups, as well as to identify and remove weapons, ammunition and explosives from illicit trafficking. Personnel from all police units, as well as the National Guard, will be involved in the events,” the statement said.
Starting tomorrow, the number of police squads will be increased. They, together with dog handlers, will work on roads, railway and bus stations, airports, and crowded places.
The police called on Kiev residents and residents of the region to be understanding of the enhanced measures.
“Police officers may ask to see documents for the purpose of personal identification and conduct a superficial inspection of the belongings of citizens and vehicle owners to detect prohibited items and things. Such measures are aimed solely at ensuring the safety of all law-abiding citizens,” wrote the speaker of the National Police.
Let us remind you that the last time strengthening of law enforcement in Kyiv was introduced on October 17. At that time, mass protests were taking place in the city center, so the government quarter was literally cordoned off by security forces.
