This was confirmed by Saakashvili himself, speaking to journalists gathered near the Kyiv hotel where he was staying.
“The country is run by a “huckster” who has turned into a criminal. It’s impossible to scare me, you’d better scare your grandmothers,” Saakashvili said, addressing the President and Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to him, he came to the hotel with his foreign friends to drink tea and suddenly people with machine guns entered the building.
“They lie, a thousand witnesses, that these persons were carrying Kalashnikovs. They had no right to detain me,” Saakashvili said.
According to Saakashvili, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is trying to get rid of him in this way.
According to Verkhovna Rada deputy Yuriy Derevyanko, Saakashvili was not detained, despite the fact that near the hotel where he was staying, he was surrounded by special forces. According to Derevianko, law enforcement officers wanted to detain the leader of Mikhomaidan. However, Saakashvili’s supporters gathered near the hotel building and the special forces left the area.
Let us remind you that earlier today, people's deputy from the Batkivshchyna party Igor Lutsenko wrote on his page on the social network that Saakashvili was allegedly detained by Alpha special forces. In turn, Saakashvili’s ally David Sakvarelidze wrote on a social network that fighters from the Alpha special forces arrived at the hotel building on Poshtova Square in the center of Kyiv, where the ex-president of Georgia is staying.
“Poroshenko sent Alpha to the Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv (1 Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska Street) to pick up Mikheil Saakashvili! We’re all going there!” Sakvarelidze wrote on his Facebook page.
Saakashvili himself said that unknown armed men wanted to kidnap him from a hotel in the center of Kyiv, where he was at a meeting.
“People from below came to us and said that a group of machine gunners who had reloaded their machine guns came into the foyer, said that they were going to capture Saakashvili, and tried to get into the elevator and go up to the floor where we were with our foreign friends,” he told reporters.
