Saakashvili explained why Klitschko refused
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili explained why he refused the offer of Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko to run in the parliamentary elections on the lists of the Udar political party, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said this during a live broadcast today on his Facebook page.
“There were many thousands of comments on my video and I heard you. Despite the fact that I believe that Vitaliy Klitschko made me a very worthy offer, we should not agree to this alliance, because we have a clear ideology, a clear understanding, we have clear principles... We have never agreed to any compromises to the detriment of their principles. The vast majority of people who came to us through Facebook said that for them it would be a compromise on principles. Therefore, naturally, we will not agree to this,” Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili also added that he returned to Ukraine not to seek positions or to be in politics at any cost, but to help the country develop and change for the better.
He once again thanked Klitschko for the proposal, and also assured that the opinion of his supporters is more important to him.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported on Saakashvili’s refusal to lead “Udar” with reference to a message on Twitter by the famous Kyiv journalist Kristina Berdinskikh.
As reported, Saakashvili’s party “Rukh of New Forces” will not be able to take part in the early elections due to the fact that the party was registered to an unknown person. In this regard, Saakashvili called on the leaders of different parties to offer places on the lists to their fellow party members. After this, the mayor of Kyiv, leader of the Udar party, Klitschko, invited Saakashvili to become the head of his political force.
