Saakashvili calls for Maidan in Tbilisi: His comrade-in-arms flies in the elections
The second round of presidential elections took place in Georgia today, in which two former foreign ministers qualified – oppositionist Grigol Vashadze and representative of the ruling regime Salome Zurabishvili.
Exit-poll data indicate a loss (43% versus 57%) for Vashadze, who promised to rehabilitate the team of fugitive ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Saakashvili, who is in the Netherlands after being expelled from Ukraine, has already called for not recognizing the results of the past elections. He stated this in a video message broadcast on the controlled Rustavi 2 TV channel.
It should be noted that Zurabishvili is also a pro-Western politician - during the election campaign she was advertised on billboards with the flags of Georgia and the European Union. However, Zurabishvili criticized Saakashvili, blaming him for the 2008 war.
Zurabishvili is considered a representative of the team of the richest Georgian oligarch Bidzin Ivanishvili. Saakashvili's supporters blamed him for his connections with Russia - the businessman owns part of the shares of Gazprom.
