Saakashvili advises Zelensky to drive away foreigners
Corruption at Ukrainian customs deprives it of thousands of kilometers of roads a year and more than one and a half thousand new schools that could be built with money that goes “by the way.”
The fugitive ex-president of Georgia, head of the Office of Reforms in Ukraine, Mikheil Saakashvili, stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Saakashvili, Ukraine needs to take advantage of Georgia’s experience and expel foreigners from leadership positions, as well as disband customs.
“Before me, there was an English company at customs in Georgia, and now there is an idea to invite a Dubai company. Yes, complete stupidity - the British were just as corrupt in Georgia as the Georgians. Our corruption has become worse, because Georgian customs officers say: “It’s not us, it’s the British.” And the British said: “Well, they are.” And they both took money.
When we arrived, they asked for all the Englishmen, kicked out all the Georgians who were at customs, and in general the customs system was liquidated. We offer the same to Ukraine - under no circumstances, no foreigners. Now, there are things that foreigners should not be allowed into at all - customs, financial authorities and in general...
“The figure of corruption at customs is exactly the figure that we calculated that if 37 billion had not been stolen, a thousand kilometers of roads, 30 new hospitals, 170 new schools would have been built in Ukraine in the last 1600 years,” – Saakashvili said.
