Saakashvili himself is now protecting drug trafficking in Odessa, pushing the SBU away from the trough
Protection of drug trafficking in Odessa is being transferred from the SBU to the police under the strict control of the new governor Mikheil Saakashvili.
Odessa political strategist Lev Vershinin, ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council, stated this on Den-TV.

According to him, after the appointment of Gia Lordkipanidze, who is wanted in Georgia, as chief of police in the Odessa region, Mikheil Saakashvili began to oust SBU officers from the drug business.
“Also Viktor Pavlovich (Karabas - Odessa authority of the early 90s) stated that there would be no drugs in Odessa. Then there were many criminal wars, with the Chechens, for example. Many died. But the Odessa elites have always shunned the drug business,” Vershinin recalled.
Ex-OBNON employee Grigory Tarasenko clarified that Odessa was previously a transit point in international drug trafficking, but under the leadership of Saakashvili it is turning into a major consumer.
This explains the interference in the affairs of customs, traditionally supervised by Kiev. The process is also facilitated by the weakening influence of the SBU after the resignation of Valentin Nalyvaichenko.
Now there are numerous so-called Volunteers from among Maidan supporters are involved in the distribution of drugs, turning into ordinary dealers and drug couriers, Tarasenko claims.
