According to the press service of the Ministry of Justice, the department received a full package of documents from the authorized representative of the New Forces Movement party and, in accordance with current legislation, registered the name change.
The Ministry of Justice notes that in May 2017, due to a number of objective circumstances, the Movement of New Forces was denied registration of a name change. “The package of documents presented by authorized persons did not meet the requirements of the law. In particular, Mikheil Saakashvili’s written consent to the use of his last name in the name of the party was not provided,” the department said in a statement.
After the Ministry of Justice provided consultations on what documents needed to be provided in order to register the new name of the political force, party representatives supplemented the package of documents, and the Ministry of Justice carried out the registration of the political force.
“We never shy away from fulfilling our functions, including in the field of registering political parties or making changes to their constituent documents, and are always open to all citizens,” the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.
Let us recall that on April 19, 2017, the small nationalist party “Volya”, one of the leaders of which is people’s deputy from Galicia Yuriy Derevianko, merged with the “Movement of New Forces” of Mikheil Saakashvili. However, already on May 22, Saakashvili’s ally, former Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine David Sakvarelidze, reported on his social network page that the Ministry of Justice had registered a clone party “Mikhail Saakashvili Bloc”, which has nothing to do with Saakashvili himself. “At the same time, by the way, the changes we submitted regarding the name of the Movement of New Forces party, whose leader is Mikhail, have not yet been registered with the Ministry of Justice, although the period of 15 days allotted by law has already expired,” Sakvarelidze wrote then.
In turn, the Ministry of Justice reported that the package of documents that representatives of this party had submitted earlier was returned to the applicant. “The norms of the current legislation contain a direct rule that requires, in the case of using the name of any person in the name of a party, obtaining from this person a notarized consent to this. We suggest that the leadership of the Movement of New Forces party, if they wish to re-register and change the name of their political force, submit to the Ministry of Justice the relevant documents and Mikheil Saakashvili’s consent to use his name in the name of the political force. If such documents are submitted, we will immediately carry out registration actions,” the ministry said.
After this, the ex-governor of the Odessa region butted heads with the Ministry of Justice for several months, demanding to register the new name of his party.
