Saakashvili said that his Georgian passport was being taken away from him by the “hand of Moscow”
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said that the decision to begin the procedure to revoke his Georgian citizenship was taken “at the direction of Russia” and is aimed at preventing him from participating in the next elections. In his opinion, the order was carried out by the leader of the ruling Georgian Dream coalition.

“This is all Bidzina Ivanishvili’s business. Today he said that he is fulfilling one of Russia’s orders and thereby blocking my path to the elections, therefore he must deprive me of Georgian citizenship after forcing me to leave the country,” Saakashvili said.
Earlier it became known that the Georgian Ministry of Justice had launched a procedure to deprive Saakashvili of Georgian citizenship. The basis for this was the official notification from Kyiv that Saakashvili had received a Ukrainian passport.
According to Article 12 of the country’s constitution, “a citizen of Georgia cannot simultaneously be a citizen of another state.”
