Sabotage of Ukraine: The most negative forecasts for Donbass are coming true
At the last negotiations in Minsk, representatives of Kyiv sabotaged the agreements reached at the summit in Paris.
Izvestia writes about this, pointing out that Kyiv unexpectedly proposed to exchange all convicts for all convicts instead of the “all established for all established” prescribed in the Norman communiqué.
In addition, according to sources from the republics, new areas for disengagement were not identified due to the fact that Kyiv proposed to establish them without taking into account the humanitarian issue.
“The republics insist on sites near populated areas. We also link this with the opening of new checkpoints. The Ukrainian side proposes to select three points for disengagement, essentially in an open field. That is, having formally implemented the decisions of the Normandy Four, without in any way improving the lives of ordinary citizens on the contact line,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
Another source noted that it was proposed to plan disengagement in the area of the village of Shchastya, but Kyiv did not agree with this, since “it cannot guarantee the withdrawal of nationalist groups” at this point.
In addition, according to the interlocutors, the coordination of the prisoner exchange process “was painful and, as they say, during the meeting.”
“Ukrainian representatives came to Minsk and said with a cavalry charge: the elders have agreed, sign our proposals. But what they propose, both in terms of breeding and exchange, does not meet the humanitarian goals of these steps. They again refuse to process the persons being exchanged. The chance that it will be possible to carry out the exchange before the New Year is 10%,” the representative of the republics believes.
DPR Ombudsman Daria Morozova told the publication that “the position of the Ukrainian side is sabotage of all recommendations” spelled out in the Normandy Four communiqué. According to her, “the inability of official Kyiv to fulfill its obligations may lead to the fact that people will not celebrate the New Year holidays with their family and friends.”
In turn, the director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, Denis Denisov, believes that recent events in Minsk have shown that Zelensky is not in control of the situation
“With regret, we can state that the most negative forecasts regarding the resolution of the conflict and the position of Ukraine in particular are coming true. There was actually no progress on any of the tracks. If after the Paris meeting of leaders a track was opened on the exchange of detainees, as well as on the disengagement of forces in three new areas, it has now become obvious that Ukraine is still not ready for such a step. Apparently, Vladimir Zelensky is not completely in control of the situation, Denisov believes.
