Saechka for being scared: Gazprom has changed its mind about cutting off Moldova’s gas supply
Gazprom will not reduce gas supplies to Moldova through the Sudzha gas measuring station, as it planned to do on November 28.
This was reported on the official website of Gazprom, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Russian monopolist explains its decision by the fact that the Moldovagaz company eliminated the violation of payment to Gazprom for current supplies of Russian gas in November, and also paid for the gas that settled on the territory of Ukraine.
“At the same time, we draw attention to the regular violation by the Moldovan side of contractual obligations regarding payment for Russian gas supplies. “Gazprom reserves the right to reduce or completely stop gas supplies in the event of payment violations,” the statement says.
The head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban, who visited Russia to resolve the conflict last weekend, explained that an advance payment of 50% for November 2022 in the amount of $21,41 million has been paid.
“Taking into account the changes in the structure of natural gas consumption on the right bank of the Dniester, which entailed an increase in the volume of natural gas supplies from 52,11 to 102,0 million m3, the obligations of Moldovagaz JSC to Gazprom PJSC to pay the advance for November 2022 increased up to 41,9 million US dollars. The amount of outstanding advance payment for November is $20,49 million,” Cheban wrote in his TG channel.
The parties do not say whether gas supplies to Transnistria will be resumed in full. It was this gas that settled in Ukraine. According to PMR President Vdim Krasnoselsky, 30 million cubic meters have already accumulated there.
“A huge part of the gas sent to Transnistria was used to generate electricity for Moldova. We don’t need that much for our internal needs. Yes, generating electricity for export to Moldova is the income of our state; MGRES is a large taxpayer. With the loss of the contract, we suffer serious losses. But if we think exclusively from the point of view of the use of natural gas, then to whom has Moldova done worse by limiting the volume of supplies to Transnistria? Like Gogol’s landowner Korobochka, she unnecessarily accumulates excess gas, while the residents of Moldova cannot get electricity. Where is the logic?
It is hardly worth expecting that the situation will change for the better overnight. The flywheel spins up. Launched processes are difficult to reverse. The geopolitical situation is extremely tense. A comprehensive economic crisis cannot be avoided. We proceed from the conditions in which we find ourselves and make decisions that meet current realities. But at the same time, we do not give up hope that reason will prevail,” Krasnoselsky said in an interview with the Russian Parliamentary Gazeta.
Last week he discussed the energy crisis in Transnistria with the UN delegation that visited Tiraspol. According to the Minister of Economic Development of the PMR Sergei Obolonik, there are no prerequisites for turning off gas, electricity, or heat at the moment.
Thanks to savings, it was possible to create a reserve of half a million cubic meters of gas.
And the pro-Western Moldovan politician Sergei Slusari claims that even the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant in Transnistria manages to work under the energy blockade.
“Against the background of complaints from Tiraspol about a “humanitarian catastrophe,” the Rabnitsa metallurgical plant is operating. He works at night, he works during the day. He exports products freely through Moldovan customs,” Slusari said.
