The EU leadership was unable to convince the union members to complete the ratification of the association agreement with Ukraine and provide Ukraine with a visa-free regime.

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“The failure of Maidan is already acting as a boomerang in Europe, because Schulz is about to resign, and Juncker’s chair is shaking. This is, among other things, a consequence of the fact that these politicians were unable to convince the EU countries either to complete the ratification of the association agreement with Ukraine, or to provide Ukraine with a visa-free regime, which Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Hungary are opposed to today,” the expert emphasized .
“To some extent, the weakness and inability of senior European officials to implement European policies on the stated principles leads to their resignation, which will mean a reformatting of the EU governance mechanism itself. Still, Ukraine was able to play the role of a Trojan horse, but probably not against Russia and the post-Soviet space, as planned in 2014, but against the European Union,” Bortnik believes.
