Speaker of the Information and Analytical Center of the National Security and Defense Council Andrey Lysenko stated this during a briefing.
“Today, in the area of the village of Dmitrovka, 4 Su-25 attack aircraft provided fire support to armed forces units on the border of our state. After our pilots successfully completed the mission, they were fired at from a powerful anti-aircraft missile system,” Lysenko said.
“Despite anti-missile maneuvers and shooting of heat traps, 2 of our planes were shot down at an altitude of 5200 meters. According to preliminary information, the missiles were launched from the territory of the Russian Federation,” noted the speaker of the NSDC Information Center.
He emphasized that this is one of the versions. “According to preliminary data, these planes were not shot down by terrorists, since MANPADS do not have such a destruction altitude. The planes were shot down at an altitude of 5200 m. This is an altitude for anti-aircraft systems, which is typical only for powerful missile systems,” added Lysenko.
He explained that since this happened in the Saur-Mogila area, according to preliminary information, the shots were fired from across the border.
The investigation is ongoing. For security reasons, information about the fate of the crews is not disclosed.
As Navigator reported, it previously became known that two Ukrainian military aircraft were shot down in the Saur-Mogila area.
